How can I fix the numbness in my "ring" toes when I ride my bicycle over long distances?

I just completed the Seattle to Portland 200 mile bike ride (http://pastrypowered.com/2008/07/15/stp-2008-half-on-a-tandem/). When I ride long distances my "ring" toe goes numb, particularly on my left side. I am already using clipless pedals and have tried slightly larger shoes (to avoid getting pinched from above, which was also happening. My bike has been fit to me (actually built for me).
