How do you deal with a canker sore / mouth ulcer?

I have a pretty nasty canker sore (or mouth ulcer, as we called 'em when I lived in Australia) on my inner cheek. I've been swishing salt water and taking extra vitamin c, but it's still pretty painful. What do you normally do when you get a canker?

    Boric acid powder.  Just put a pinch between your cheek or gum, right on the canker.  Then hold it there for about 15 minutes and rinse it out.
