Is Sensory Processing Disorder "SPD" common in children with autism?

I've been reading recently about Sensory Processing Disorder, or SPD. Children affected with SPD get overloaded with too much sensory information. SPD is not autism, but I've heard that many children with autism also have SPD. Does anyone know how common this is?

Yes, it is almost always a "comorbid" condition (which simply means that it happens at the same time). I don't think anyone knows yet if one is caused by the other, but I would guess there is simply a correlation, not a causation. SPD is also common in ADHDers, but it can occur independently of ADHD and ASD, which is why I don't think there's a causal relationship.
