Journal Running in the Seattle 1/2, 1/2 trained

Two years ago I injured myself playing softball. Likely it was a pulled periformis muscle, maybe the glut, maybe the IT band. Although I did PT over the winter, it still didn't feel quite right.

This summer, I re-injured it, the same way, softball. Then to add to the injury, I fell on my bike, right on the same hip. I've been in PT since, and have made a slow recovery.

Now silly thing that I am, I have continued to train with my running group the Soggy City Kitties. We run once a week. I've been a little lax on my mid-week training- but I have been bike commuting 2-3x per week, yoga 1x per week, and and maybe running 1x per week.

During our long runs on the weekend I was not able to run up hills,  I'd walk them. I was able do the distances, but slower than I normally would.

This weekend we trained on a route we had done about a month ago. For my friends who have easily completed 11 miles, the 9 mile route was a piece of cake. For me, it was as if I was running it for the first time - which I essentially was. This time I made the hills, which is good, but I was about as tired/winded as they were a month ago.

So I figured at this point I'm about 1/2 trained for this 1/2. I know I won't beat my PR, I know I won't be able to jog the whole thing - My only goal is to complete it, which feels like a huge step back. I'm trying to learn how to relax about running and stop making it about getting better or having a different goal - to just run. This is especially hard for me because I am not a fan of running. This is completely unlike my feelings on biking - where I just love going on bike rides not for the challenge, but for the scenery (although getting faster is a nice side effect).

At least the weather on Sunday is supposed to be nice.
