Reading for a Bad Gut
I recently picked up a book called "Eating right for a bad gut" (or something to that effect). I've only started reading it, but it's pretty fascinating. Patty suggested a book on Specific Carbohydrate Diet, which I picked up, but after a cursory thumb-through, I decided against getting too in depth with the diet without actually knowing what's wrong with my digestive tract. I'd like to avoid potentially making things worse if the stomach problem isn't related to what's covered in the book... and frankly, it would be a very radical diet change to make based solely on what a book says.
Anyhoo, back to the new book. What appeals to me about it, thus far, is that it seems more focussed on helping you figure out what is causing your stomach issues, and then helping you deal with them (whereas the SCD book seems set on laying down how that diet works). It covers all sorts of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and helps you understand the difference between the different types.
I have to admit it is a bit of a downer that this book isn't promising me a "cure" like the SCD book did, but perhaps I'm better off with a little dose of reality first.
