A shorter, more intense course of radiation therapy for early stage breast cancer - running three weeks instead of the conventional five - is highly effective, researchers have found in an analysis that challenges current medical wisdom.
A team of Canadian researchers, led by Dr. Tim Whelan of McMaster University in Toronto, found that boosting the dosage and shaving off treatment time not only produced the same lifesaving benefits but cost patients two-thirds less.
