It's official! 24 million diabetics
Sometimes I just abhor statistics, especially these numbers coming out of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention today.
About 8 percent of the U.S. population has diabetes -- that's 24 million people, folks. Based on 2007 data, this is three million more diabetics over a two-year span. The good news? The percentage of people clueless they have diabetes dropped from 30 percent to 25 percent. Yes, it's good more people are being treated earlier -- I bet Big Pharma is jumping for joy, too.
Nearly 25 percent of the 60 years and older population had diabetes in 2007 -- another blow to our nation's dwindling MediCare coffers.
We're approaching a double-digit rate of diabetes in this nation. These statistics just stink.
