Oh Canada thanks for the insulin pumps
The 2008 presidential election is nearing and the thought of four more years with John McCain at the helm feels like a fork in the eye to this faithful Democrat.
But there's one potential bright spot. If McCain is elected and a type 1 Democrat makes good on their half-serious proclamation to move to Canada, they might score a free insulin pump!
The Ontario government just announced a $741 million, four-year diabetes strategy, which earmarks $62 million to provide insulin pumps for adults with type 1 diabetes. Each year 1,300 people with type 1 diabetes will receive a free insulin pump per the plan.
This isn't new to Canada, they've been handing out insulin pumps to youth under 18 since 2006, but now adults will benefit, too.
Like this would ever happen in the United States. A place where socialized medicine for the masses is a dirty phrase, but Medicare -- a form of socialized medicine -- is funded.
I just don't get this nation's healthcare system. How are people with T1 or T2 diabetes managing their healthcare bills in this age of rising inflation and astronomical energy costs?
Done ranting for today.
