I recently came across a wonderful resource for anyone that is remotely associated with special education. If you are a teacher, parent, grandparent or know anyone that is involved with special education, this website will be of use to you. The name of the site is Raven's Guide to Special Education.
"The intent of Raven's Guide to Special Education is to make this complex educational system more understandable and workable for the people who help children with disabilities."
The author, Richard Flagle, is a School Psychologist. He provides information on regulations, disabilities, evaluations, IEP's, programs, teaching, discipline, mainstream, ESY (extended school year), transition, glossary, and Internet links. You can also utilize the Google search feature on the site to search for a specific topic.
On another special education note...
When I first began my special education journey, I had no idea what all of the related abbreviations stood for or meant. I heard school faculty refer to IEP's and ESY. Then they told me my son would be classified as OHI. I was totally lost. If you have been or are in the same boat, I have the perfect thing for you.
A Parent Primer on Special Education Acronyms, Abbreviations and Definitions will help you navigate and better understand the special education maze. It provides a comprehensive list of virtually every abbreviation that is used in the special education system. I keep a copy in my Resource Notebook and refer to it when necessary.
