Some possible solutions for getting out

We've been focusing on strategies to help with getting my son (8 years old - Aspergers) out. He got an iPod for Christmas because music is one thing that can distract him from a tantrum. Weird Al is one of his favorites. I've heard "White and Nerdy" too many times. We got the DJ style headphones, because the ear buds 'hurt'.

We just got a new travel bag for him to use when we go out. I'd like to train him to put things in it that help him on the road. We'll see how that goes.

I just read Autism and Transitions. Maddy used pictures in her car to help her sons. I'm wondering if photos of the places we go regularily will help my son. Sweet Kitty, Winco, Target, therapy, etc. I'll try to come up with a sample and I'll talk to him about it tomorrow.

I haven't been able to get Maxfield's hair cut since December. He's getting really shaggy, but only screams at me when I mention going to the salon. He's had several years of good haircut experiences, except for the last haircut. It was a nightmare. The stylist was an adorable little asian man who just didn't want to upset my boy and took forever to cut his hair. I've got to come up with some sort of trick to get my dude's hair cut. Pretty soon he's going to have hair as long as his sister's.

Any suggestions?

I wonder if there are any books that could work to discuss the haircut situation? I'm assuming that you've heard of "social stories". You might be able to write one out for him...
