Influenza!

So, I started feeling a little spacey on Monday during a meeting, more so than an average Monday at 3pm. By that evening, I was achey all over. I figured I'd eaten a bad egg salad or something. (Paranoid as I am, I even imagined that my stale water contained was harboring contamints.) I work up on Tuesday in the same condition.

I took my first sick day since in the last 5 years or so, stayed home and worked on the computer, allowing time for a mid-day nap. By the end of the day, I was still had a major headache, stomach ache, backache, and achy joints...essentially aches everywhere I could have aches.

On Wedneday, I visited my naturopath, who was good enough to see me on short notice. She found that my blood pressure was low and, amid my other symptoms, diagnosed me as having some akin to a flu. She made some interesting recommendations:

  • No sugar as it causes the immune system to spike
  • Kang Ning Wan: Kan Herb Company, Chines "Curing Formula" for nausea
  • Gan Mao Ling: Kan Herb Company, Chinese herbs for achiness (also worked swimmingly)
  • A combination of Licorice root and echinacea in a tincture to boost the immune system and raise my blood pressure.
  • Colloidal Multi Mins Liquid: These are liquid minerals, I believe for dehydration, etc.

I also did acupuncture to boost the immune system and deal with overall pain. It was just what I needed. Now, I'm happily on the mend. Not yet 100% but getting there.

Update: I've added links to the specific resources that I was prescribed by my naturopath.  Obviously, you should consult with your own.  As naturopathic remedies aren't regulated near as I can tell, you'll want to get yours from a trusted company and source.  The Kan Herb company is the one that my naturopath uses.  I have not ordered from any of the companies in the links--I just used the specific brands--I can't vouch for them.
