Leg Pain Keeping Me Up

So something I thought I would share to get the ball rolling on my Trusera profile - one of the most chronic problems I have had to deal with (that doctor's just cannot figure out) has been my recent leg discomfort. It only comes on at night when I am getting comfy in bed and I can't seem to figure out what causes it. It certainly is worse when I am stressed out (which, with my job and wedding planning is quite a bit) but it isn't clear as to whether or not working out makes it better or worse. Some advice included taking quinine, others thought losing a bit of weight would make the difference (kinda hard to workout in the AM when I am not getting any sleep though) and some even said I should take muscle relaxers (flexeril) every night before bed (again, not easy to get up and workout to stay healthy if you have a flexeril hangover).

Let me describe the pain the best way I can - it is not the feeling that I need to move, like restless leg sydrome (as far as I can tell) but more like I need to stretch - as if my calf and thigh muscle (and for me, mostly on the left leg) is tight and cannot relax. I usually get up and stretch, do yoga moves, massage my leg, etc. and when I feel some relief lay back down to sleep - and then before I can get to sleep the pain returns.

Not intense enough pain to run to the emergency room in the middle of the night but enough pain that I can't get any good rest.

While doctor's confirmed that my problem is not circulatory, I have actually had good luck wearing the circulation/DVT pressure socks at night when I am sleeping. Certainly not something that would work for everyone but I would say the $30 investment to buy a pair at your local drug store might be worth it if you are having the same type of trouble.

If you do, let me know if it also works for you.

Hi Stacy - yes, and if I can't find a workable solution, I will try a trial of RLS meds - for now, the compression socks are working well so I will hope that keeps working so I c...

Julie, Of course my first thought was 'restless leg syndrome' but since you don't think that's it, I'm at a loss. Have your doctors mentioned doing a trial of restless leg syn...

I've had both restless leg syndrome and the feeling of needing to stretch my legs, but fortunately, after losing lots of weight it doesn't happen anymore - still can't sleep and ...
