Staying Young
I recently heard Dr. Mark Liponis, from Canyon Ranch Spa, speak about preventative health. I quickly realized there are some easy things that I could do to better manage my "wellnes" by maintaining a healthy immune system!
Here's a topline of what he recommends:
1. Breathe: Try to remember to breath all the way into your diaphram and then release all of the air from your lungs on the exhale. Watch for times when you might be holding your breath (many of us do so when reading email!).
2. Sleep: Get 7-8 hours of sleep! Make sure the room is dark because any sort of light will actually impact the quality of your sleep. I also kicked my poor pug dogs out of bed because they are moving around too much at night.
3. Eat: Chew your food well, make meals a social occassion, and only eat when you are hungry. Include lots of fiber (good for digestion and fends off the munchies), fish, fruit, and greens.
4. Love: Love of any kind, for anyone or anything, is the antidote for negative emotions and is good for your immune system.
5. Move: Rhythmic exercise can add healthy years to your life...dancing, swimming, etc.
6. Enhance: Take your vitamins - multivitamins, vitamin D, fiber, fish oil. Drink water.
7. Sooth: Create a soothing envornment so that you and your immune system can be at peace.
