You got it in one.  Being positive and the fact that you can interact is best.  This is not just a disabiltiy but it is people.  See inside the person not the shell.  My son may have a asd (I know he has just to be diagnosed).  He is a joy and such a hard working kid with so much feelings for people and what kid at 14 would ask how was your day mom.  Just cos he got routines and finds social interaction and situations hard should not be put off.
