How do you handle people ridiculing your child with autism?

Here is what one mom of a 22-year-old with high-functioning autism says:

I wish I could say that over the years my response to people ridiculing, demeaning or rejecting my son has gotten better, but it has not. But what has gotten better is that it no longer overwhelms me and does not last as long.
