Organization helps women at hereditary risk for breast cancer

It's called FORCE, and it stands for Facing Our Risk for Cancer Empowered. It's the only national nonprofit organization devoted to hereditary breast and ovarian cancer. Their mission  includes support, education, advocacy, and promoting awareness and research specific to hereditary breast and ovarian cancer.

Their health care advisory board members have been selected from the specialties that play a role in high-risk patient care.  FORCE  has an annual conference so women can get together, and an event called Passing of the Torch.

The event highlights the hereditary link between breast and ovarian cancer, honors cancer survivors and those at high risk, remembers those whose lives have been lost to cancer, and recognizes families that have been affected by cancer. A ceremonial flame is passed from an ovarian cancer survivor to a breast cancer survivor marking the transition from Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month to Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Their Passing of the Torch events feature entertainment, local experts speaking about hereditary cancer and breast and ovarian cancer, pre-vivors, and survivors who shared their stories of support and hope

Have you been involved with FORCE at all? If not, check them out!
