Renee Zellweger talks about her breast cancer scare

Renee Zellweger is speaking out about a breast cancer scare she had a few years ago.
The star tells SELF magazine that during a routine self examination in 1996 she discovered two small lumps in her right breast.

She explains, "I thought, 'Oh, I know what you do now. You find out what that is. So I went and found out."

It ended up being nothing. Why do you think she's talking about it now?

I have thought about this. I am really not sure why she is bringing it up now. One friend of mine, when I told her I had been diagnosed, said to me that she knew what I was going...

I have thought about this. I am really not sure why she is bringing it up now. One friend of mine, when I told her I had been diagnosed, said to me that she knew what I was going through because she had a scare the year before. I felt she didn't know how I felt because her's was benign.
Maybe Renee thinks that she can help build awareness of breast cancer by telling her own story - even if she didn't have it. I am very skeptical of celebrities jumping on the medical bandwagon when they don't have the personal experience. Call me a cynic I guess.
