I'm an author, speaker, columnist and blogger on caregiver support and elder care/senior issues. I'm also very interested in alternative health measures. I'll be sharing caregiving issues in my stories and journaling on natural health issues. There will be lots of crossover, as well. Caregivers need to take care of their own health. Thirty percent die before the people they are caring for. Alternative health measures can be a big part of that. Thank you for your kind words about Minding Our Elders. You obviously know exactly why I wrote the book. I hope your friend finds the story or stories that most reflect what she is going through, and uses them for support. That's why I call it a "portable support group."

Initial resonating images for me: Greeting each wonderfully cherished resident by name: You really do understand the sweet side of the experience. Once again turning red and yelling, "Sorry!" after setting off the exit alarm by accident. The fear of the ringing phone. "His need met my need," concerning Joe.
And to imagine you had four (4!) cherished elders at Rosewood at once. I'm only on page 13, but plan to ship a copy to my college roommate. At our reunion in June, I saw the relief in her face when she said, "You really undersand. I didn't think anyone would." Indeed there is great power in connecting with others who've been there. Thank you! I sneaked a peak ahead and expect I'll touch base again after reading more.
