I usually post about the troubles with my son who has Asperger's. This story is about me.
I was diagnosed with Grave's disease a couple of years ago. I took methimazole for 18 months. I thought I was cured until last month they did a blood test and noticed my thyroxine count was way low.
So I scheduled a thyroid scan a few weeks ago and today was the luc…[more]

TheZach posted this story a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to see if my message to the school district had done anything, so I googled.
It's good to know that "Barton said Alex has gotten an outpouring of support from all over the world. Many parents have shared their own struggles with school districts, she said."
I look forw…[more]

Getting home yesterday after picking up my daughter from school, we see Max dragging himself down the sidewalk from his bus stop. He's moaning and clearly miserable.
I tease him by saying he needs to moan a little louder - then demonstrate with my own loud moans. So the dude moans louder. He hands me a note from the school nurse. He had an acci…[more]

It's hard to get my kids out of the apartment, but I still do at least once every weekend. I steel myself for the fight to get them out. Sometimes I wonder why I bother. Like today.
After a couple of hours of tantrums and delays and "oh I didn't know you were waiting", I got the kids in the car to go to Seattle Center. We found parking on the street and

I have dance class every Thursday night with a bunch of hippies. I'm not a fan of hippies, but they seem to like my kind of dance (5 Rhythms). I've learned to put up with them.
Halfway through each class the teacher has everyone gather round in a circle. We introduce ourselves in turn and people mention whatever they'd like. Some will talk about how they've b

We've been working for almost a year to get my son an official diagnosis. Honestly, we only need it for his school. He's so smart that the school PT wants to cut his services and I've been fighting a losing battle with her.
Yesterday afternoon I got the call at 2:16 (Max will appreciate that I remembered the time). Dr. Toth didn't make me listen to

It's amazing how crazy my life has become. All I do now is put out fires with what feels like a tiny plastic pail of water.
We did get an extended weekend a couple of weeks ago and saw family in California. We panned for gold!

Good times, for sure, but they are few and far between. I stuggle. It's not just the emotional and physical issues of being a single mom with

It's not that I haven't known all her life that my daughter, Jade, was different. She's always had some interesting issues
Between the ages of 3 and 6, she obsessively tied everything together. All of her toys, stuffed animals, cars, books, art supplies, etc. would be tied up with whatever she could find. I had stored a bunch of yarn the attic, which she found at …[more]

As my 8-year-old son, Max, left my office with a friend for the day, I gave him a little hug. He doesn't hug back, but does his usual 'ow'.
I then gave him a kiss on the cheek, and told him I loved him and have a nice time. He waved back 'bye'.
Our company receptionist (she's a temp) says "he's really affectionate".
I'm confused and say "what?

We've been waiting for our 'official diagnosis' appointment since September. It's been on the calendar since January. I sent a note to the school last week. April 4 is supposed to be the day Max and I go to Seattle Children's Hospital for our appointment.
Yesterday the doctor postponed the appointment until Monday.
Max is especially sensitive to schedule chang
