I've been seeing a naturopath as my primary physician for about six years. I have an interest in alternative medicine that was made particularly passionate when I was able to address GERD with supplements. I've also had good luck with acupuncture and a carefully chosen chiropractor. I've been married for five years (and counting) to a woman who's more than I deserve. We have a beautiful little boy code-named Banjo.

Your Valentine's day description of yoga really helped clarify the whole point of yoga. I feel so guilty about working hard and not ever making time for relaxing or accepting just being.

Dying of Cancer, but Full of Life Lessons

Randy Pausch has become something of a sensation lately, talking about dying with pancreatic cancer.    He was highlighted in the Sunday New York Times today.  I added the link below! Cheering Section Dying of Cancer, but Full of Life Lessons By VINCENT M. MALLO... more

How do I support friends trying to have children?

I'd love your thoughts on this question. It's something I think about a lot and I'd love the input of "friends who've been there." What's the best way to support couples that are struggling with fertility? What, if anything, should I be especially sensitive to?Here's t... more

Why You Should Care about Toxic Plastics

If you're a parent, a pregnant woman, or buy gifts for children, you should know about phthalates, Bisphenol-A, and mounting concern about the health effects of common plastics. The concerns about toxics in plastic (excerpted from a great article in USA Today) include health issu... more

Reflecting on Yoga Teachers

We had a substitute teacher in my Yoga class recently. Like a child who's routine has changed or a mouse with moving cheese, I did not adjust well to this. My class is very early in the morning, so I think I'm working mostly from the early, animalistic base of my brain at that hou... more

Unconditional Love

Unconditional love seems like a persistent theme in my life right now. Perhaps, it's because it's Valentine's Day. In today's yoga class at the YMCA, our instructor talked about unconditional love for your body, acceptance of where you are in your poses. I struggle with this. It... more

Yoga at the YMCA

I confess that I'm a recovering Yoga Snob.  Since a bad experience at the 24 Hour Fitness about a million years ago, I've avoided large class, gym yoga.  Today, I was totally exhilirated by a Yoga Flow class here at our local YMCA, Merideth Mathews, in Seattle.  I th... more

Hey Jude,

Just wanted to say that I'm excited for you and wish you nothing but the best. It's been a while since we've last spoken but it appears the work you were doing has been paying off. Great site, great content, and I'm in full support!

Hi Jude,

Thanks for commenting on my first journal. :) My sister is actually studying to be a naturopathic doctor at Bastyr in the Seattle area right now. My family has a lot of nutrition background and as a result I've been very familiar with natural medicine my whole life. It's great to meet people with similar backgrounds here on Trusera!

Thanks for the compliment about my story Jude! I wrote that about a year and a half ago when life first started getting crazy, but until now haven't really shared it with anyone.

Thanks! "Bad apple docs" are those that either completely misdiagnosed me because their egos couldn't handle admitting "I don't know" or docs who told me nothing was wrong when there really was something majorly wrong.

Thanks for inviting me to Trusera. We share a lot of the same interests. I just posted my story. But I didn't mention my interests in mountain biking, yoga, and alternative health. How did you solve the acid reflux? Eric

Eric! I can't claim any wonder cures, but I did have very good luck with my naturopath. I wrote about the specifics here:

Really glad that you're here! Jude
