Two, and possibly one more of my grandchildren have Aspergers and I wanted to learn as much as I could about it to help me, them and their parents. I've learned quite a bit and have learned about other peoples lives as well. I find Trusera has been a good learning tool as well as a good outlet that my daughter referred me to.

Not sure whether to say recommended or useful because I find this to be both. Thank you so much for posting these. I added more in my comment. Still getting the hang of Trusera.

Thank you for the recommendation of using cinnamon to lower my wife's blood sugar levels. I will pass it along to her. Unfortunately, most of our cinnamon intake comes from Snickerdoodles, but I ...

Nickys Birthday Transformer and Jadey

We gave Nick a party for family to celebrate his 8th birthday.  The boy loves Transformers and is a whiz at putting them together so I found one on Craigs List that was a 20th anniversary issue and pretty cool.  As I was walking out of Arbys with the transformer in a... more

The Autism Spectrum and What I Want the World To Know

The one thing the world should know about the Autism Spectrum is that anyone could be on it and not even know.  The spectrum is so broad that it covers a wide range of personalities, some you would never guess have autism, and some who are so disabled by it that it would be ob... more

Don't Call Me Dear

Okay, this is April Fools Day and no jokes so far - I really don't like jokes unless they are very clever.  I went to my favorite beauty college the other day and had my hair dyed.  I asked for light ash blond, but it is a bit reddish and I don't quite like the color... more

Yard Sale Find Animals In Translation

I decided to go to a yard sale this morning, actually two I had circled, couldn't find my money after the first one, so came home with some good deals and then found the missing $20 shoved up in a corner of my pocket.  As I was going over the special things I had picked -... more

My grandsons, ages eight and almost eight, have Aspergers and yet are not alike in many ways. One runs and hides when he is frustrated and the other lashes out. I hope he will learn how to control it. His OT is working on it. Nick doesn't relate well with other kids, but does with his siblings and family. Max is charismatic and other kids seek him out, but there is the problem of the lashing out. Max's older sister used to flap for a few years, I think, but doesn't anymore. I wonder if she is autistic or what? Anyway, they are all extremely bright and wonderful people and I want to be there for them when I can.

Gee, it feels nice to be welcomed, thanks Rosie and epowell! I feel that I've learned important things from reading members input.

My granddaughter, Jadey, is now considered to be on the
Autism Spectrum. I'll be interested in how she is diagnosed. I've started reading "Pretending to be Normal" and maybe I'll find that I fit the profile too, who knows? Jadey is 14 and very bright, but hasn't been doing her homework, so is failing school. Since saying she didn't want to live she will be seeing a therapist tomorrow night.

Hello Leana! Regarding your question about scoliosis...I've found that if I keep my core strong (sit ups, sit ups, sit ups!), it doesn't tend to bother me very much as an adult. But I can tell the minute that I am getting too out of shape because I'll start to have little pains in my back. Massage and a chiropractic adjustment from time to time seem to be really helpful too.

Thanks for the info on scoliosis - I will pass it on to Tim and tell him he needs to do more sit ups. He's very lucky to have a hot tub as it seems to help him a lot.

Thanks for your comments, Leana. I have had Aspergers my whole life (but I never knew what it was). I have many helpful ideas that might benefit your grandchildren. I'd be happy to share them with you. Please take a look at my story and see if you can relate. :)
