I live an active lifestyle and strive to maintain my well being, which for me means striking a balance and making my health a priority. For the most part, I am fortunate to have a good health track record, despite the occasional aches and pains from scoliosis and an old neck injury. As my family ages, I’m learning about some of the genetic health challenges that may await me and I am interested in taking preventative measures to fend off these age related issues.

I've never been in this situation and it always worries me because I don't know what to do or say. The same thing when friends have a death in the family. This is extremely helpful so I have some...
These are great suggestions! One tactical thing my family found helpful during my father-in-law's hospital stay was to designate a "point person" - someone close who can publish updates and answer...
Great stuff, Rosie, thank you! I love how you've made it list, really easy to take action from. Thanks!

Making the most of an annual check up
I had my annual check up today. I always try to schedule it close to Valentine's Day so that I'll remember (as an act of love). I was a little late this year, but I made it.A few things that I thought were notable:1) Preparing: For the first time, I kept a list with me for the mont...

How can I help?
A good friend's father was just released from the hospital after a terribile motorcycle accident. We were just discussing the fact that everyone asks what they can do and decided to brainstorm the following list that others might find helpful. Feel free to add your ideas to this li...

Finding time...
I cannot seem to make working out a priority. I enjoy it when I'm out there...running, biking, walking, yoga. But everything else always semmes to take priority. I guess it goes back to the old saying that you have to take care of yourself first in order to be of value to anyone el...

Hey Rosie! My grandmother struggled with macular degeneration late in her life. We always figured it was exacerbated by smoking, but I don't know if there's medical evidence about that or not. I know that recently there's been a lot of new research on macular degeneration. I'll add bookmarks of some of the content that I've seen. Juderosie - on September 6, 2007
Thanks - yea, my grandmother is struggling with macular degeneration too. She was actually surrounded by second hand smoke most of her life! So your theory could make sense. I've been reading a lot about supplements that one can take - but it is hard to know the best route to take.Greg - on January 21, 2008
So how was Sundance? My girlfriend worked an opening night party for the opera on Saturday and said loads of people kept trying to get in, thinking it was some Sundance event!Meesh - on March 1, 2008

My mother-in-law has macular degeneration and would be a person who was almost never around cigarette smoking, being a strict Mormon, as well as several of her siblings which both situations apply to. I've given my husband Ocuvite with Lutein to try to keep him from going blind on me in our later years, which are pretty much here. He says he takes them once in awhile! Great! (Not) I read that peas are good too. Another genetic defect that runs in his family, and now mine - our sons - is scoliosis. We never would have known it about our sons till they had xrays and one has severe scoliosis and one isn't so severe. I feel so bad for our oldest since he has a lot of pain from it and it will be hard on him as he gets older. I've noticed the sweet way you greet newcomers and want you to know I think you're terrific.Spaghettiodreams - on April 15, 2008
haha, I'll add you to my monstrously growing list!
