I hope to share with others some of what i've learned so they can target their energy on things that work and, hopefully, make some time to just relax and be with their kids.

Welcome slackermom. I love the point of the name. I was curious. And sometimes all we can do is start conversations with ourselves...we've all done it :)

I love your attitude and I think more parents should be slackers. I found that the less I do with my son the better off he is.

okay, I accidentally began a conversation with myself. while this isn't unusual, it is a little embarrassing. Is it possible to delete?

I chose the user name 'slackermom' because that is what I had aspired to be as a young parent. I saw all the mothers & fathers trying way too hard to be perfect parents -- easy to do when there are so many opportunities in this highly-educated town -- and wanted to be the backlash parent. My plan was to send my kids to the local public school, avoid too much organized activity, take the kids home afer school and let them play w/ neighbhorhood kids instead of driving to 'playdates' all over town. that was the plan until I had a child who was eventually diagnosed w/ Asperger's Syndrome. Now I'm carting my kids to two different schools, driving all over town for special therapy and activities that 'people' say will help, and driving as far as it takes to find a good match in a playdate. I wish I could be the slacker mom that I'd hoped to be, but that's not what life had in store for me. On the positive side, I've met a lot of great people on this journey who have been an important source of support and advice. I hope to share with others some of what i've learned so they can target their energy on things that work and, hopefully, make some time to just relax and be with their kids.
